Camelroc MTB Trail

CLOSEST TOWN > Fouriesburg

TRAIL DESTINATIONCamelroc Guest Farm

DISTANCE10 & 30km

GRADING > Intermediate to Difficult

OVERVIEW

There are two Caledon Rivers and Camelroc Guest Farm is situated right between them. (The farm faces a spectacular sandstone hill with an outcrop shaped like a camel's head, hence the name). The surrounding Rooiberg ranges offer a great setting for a beautifully varied and purpose-built single-track trail, thus ensuring an authentic mountain bike experience with glorious views over the Maluti Mountains.

On your bike

These are genuine mountain bike trails. Set out in the Rooiberge of the Eastern Free State, near Fouriesburg. Beautiful and varied single trail purpose built for authentic mountaing biking. Excellent views along most of the trail. This is for the adventurer who wants more than just riding on gravel roads and jeep tracks. You will not want to ride these exciting trails just once!!!

There are two routes - 10km figure-of-eight route and a 30km loop - with two shortcut options to reduce these to either 10km or 20km. Overall, the route is quite difficult with a very tough climb up to the mountainous summit. It is mostly single-track and technical, covering varied terrain as it winds through trees along the Small Caledon River and up and down the slopes. Across-the-bar blesbuck viewing will complement the Maluti Mountain ambience here on the edge of rural Lesotho.

Off the bike

Self Catering Chalets, Camp Site and en-suite rooms. Game viewing, swimming, DSTV, hiking trails and a very challenging 4x4 trail.

Marquard02

OVERVIEW

Heads up - this vibrant and energeticlittle town in the south eastern Free State is the ideal spot for a family MTB weekend. Tarred roads are few and far between in Marquard, so all the more reason to cleat up and enjoy! Start off by exploring the town, cranking through quiet streets to admire all the old houses and the beautiful sandstone church.

On your bike

There are very few tarred roads in Marquard and there is no traffic either... One of the most pleasant activities is simply riding around the quiet streets, admiring en route the old houses and the beautiful sandstone church. Much thought has been put into the convenience and accessibility of the MTB trails to riders staying in Marquard which will lead them out onto numerous riding trails and distances.

Most rides are along dirt farm roads and jeep tracks. A word of caution: the overgrown ones yield superb crops of the infamous devil thorns of the area, resulting in what has become known as the "Marquard Ritual" of fixing punctures. Don't bring your bike anywhere near Marquard if you don't have slime in your tyres... you won't get very far!

There are fine views of the surrounding area, and most of the climbs in this trail network are gentle, suited to all levels of riders.

Off the bike

Marquard is a vibrant and energetic community and its people would like to invite you to visit the hidden jewel of the Free State. The beautiful little town, situated in the South Eastern Free State, is a peaceful getaway and is well known for its 4 x 4, hiking and horse-riding trails. This is country living at its best, close to gorgeous Ficksburg and the mountains of Lesotho.CONTACT:
