If your style is being cramped by city living, take some time out upon open, rolling Highveld grasslands. The 2,500 expanse that is Acorn Guest Farm will satisfy cyclists who are search of some peaceful, recreational riding.
On your bike
Rides are self-guided along tracks used to access various fields and paddocks around the farm … so, if you open a gate, please close it. Stiles for hikers have been built over some of the fences, so riders can attempt a precarious portage over these. Cyclists may also attempt to ride along the hiking trails if they are looking for something more exciting.
Off the bike
This is a working farm, the main business being merino sheep, cattle, fields for grazing and crops of soya and maize. Rietpan also has a place in history. Near the end of the Boer War, the Boers, under Commandant Mostert, laid down their weapons at the farm Twyfelaar while they waited for Buller to arrive from Natal.
For walkers, Acorn Guest Farm has three easy hiking trails, and for birders, three pans attract a variety of waterbirds. For the kids there are supervised foefie slide rides and, for the whole family, fishing and swimming in natural river pools.
