On your bike

Mountain bikers have five routes to choose from, all offering varying lengths and degrees of difficulty. Though the terrain is mostly technical with plenty of climbs, there are two routes (Green: 10km and Blue: 5km) which are more suited to novices. The remaining options (Black: 22km, Red: 19km and Yellow: 17km) are all challenging enough to make you dig deep.

The 7km Blue Route is mostly flat, following jeep track and some easy single-track (nice for a fun family ride with minimal climbs). The 14km Green Route also follows jeep- and easy single-track, but with a few more climbs thrown into the mix to keep things interesting.

If you came here for a more serious crank, get ready to up your game on any one of the other three rides. The 17km Yellow Route is rated Intermediate to Difficult; there is nothing too tricky here and the ride should be fun for most riders. You will have to deal with a few river crossings and some rocky single-track, but this should be a fun challenge. The route splits right before the Black and Red Route head down a very steep downhill – but joins up with them again later. Follow the Blue arrows along the river course, then ascend to the finish up a long climb.

Some gritty riding can be expected if you venture onto the 20km Red Route. This one is rated ‘Difficult’ and is intended for skilled riders, although you could always walk the technical sections. The Red Route follows the Black until it splits away at the point where the latter option loses the plot up an extreme single-track along the neck of the mountain.

Finally, there’s the 22.5km Black Route for those hard-core heroes out to do a serious session! This is where the going will get tough, with some solid climbs, sharp and tight corners, daring descents and tricky river crossings. Take on this trail with caution, and certainly only if you are an experienced mountain biker.
