Bergwoning Farm, situated in a tranquil valley, between the beautiful Maluti Mountains and bordering the Golden Gate National Park, is surrounded by characteristic sandstone and basalt formations, making for a mountain biker’s paradise.
Above the Clouds is an 18km off-road ride available on request, since the route goes onto a neighbouring property. Climbing to an altitude 2 100m above sea level, you can expect a challenging ride. The reward is outstanding scenery while riding a roller coaster of valleys and mountains. The tracks are technical, so this is not a ride for the unfit or inexperienced mountain biker. Another option is the Bergwoning 7km circuit where you can ride your mountain bike along the 4×4 track with several technical sections and wet foot encounters along the Klein Caledon River. With eye-catching scenery and easy access, Bergwoning is nice for the weekender that wants to do a technical short route at high altitude for one or two hours.
Bergwoning Farm is a quaint getaway with access to hiking trails, abseiling, mountain-biking, clay pigeon shooting, fly-fishing, hunting, wing-shooting and bird watching. The Klein Caledon River flows year-round so there are several swimming holes to choose from. There is also a farm dam to take a breather and a dip, if the rains have been good. There’s a conventional swimming pool at neighbouring Kiara Lodge.
