OVERVIEW
The spectacular Fugitives’ Drift property, a 5,000-acre Natural Heritage Site, overlooks both Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift, offering you panoramic views over the Buffalo River and the rolling hills of rural Zululand. There is an ever-expanding network of single-track and jeep tracks through the reserve, ranging from flat to steep, and technical to more intermediate.
On your bike
One of the many perks of cycling here is fantastic over-the-bars game viewing, with giraffe, zebra, blesbok and wildebeest all around on the ride to these famous Anglo-Zulu war battlefields. Explore the single-track maze through the rugged terrain of this part of northern KZN.
Off the bike
Museum at Rorke’s Drift and at Isandlwana. Bike up to San caves with paintings. Go on down to a beautiful spot on the river with the cliffs beyond housing the scared nests of Bald Ibis. Visit historic sites nearby. Walks and horse rides within the reserve allow you to view the abundant game and birdlife. Go fishing along the 20km of water frontage on the Buffalo River.
