OVERVIEW
Jabali Private Game Reserve has 34 km of cycling trails with terrain ranging from flat, sandy areas to rocky slopes and hills dotted with thorn scrub and indigenous aloes.
On your bike
Puncture proof your tyres! If you prefer fewer formal roads and require a more challenging route, you can follow the myriad paths that crisscross the property.
Jabali means ‘Small Mountain’ and, as the name indicates, the reserve is located at the foot of a flat topped, pyramid-shaped mountain called Renosterkop. From the summit you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views over Gauteng. During the Boer War there was a battle on these slopes, and all kinds of interesting artifacts can be found around them to this day. So, visit the graves of the vanquished and follow in the footsteps of early pioneers.
Off the bike
Jabali offers the most spectacular hiking trails encompassing wetlands, mountains and grassland. There is also horse-riding, rock-climbing and open vehicle game-viewing. Birdwatchers will enjoy sightings of South Africa’s national bird, the blue crane.
