This route – from Malealea to Ramabanta – is mostly gravel road, with some good single track sprinkled in. This is also the route for stage 2 of the Lesotho Sky stage race.
On your bike
From Malealea to Ramabanta, this ride consists of primarily back-country roads with section of good single track in the last quarter. Overall, this last part requires moderate to advanced trail skills. The river crossing here can quickly become a challenge in rainy season (Nov-Jan), so do not attempt after heavy rainfall! An alternative to the last quarter is the main gravel road and the village Moitsupeli – only difference is that this route is 20 km longer!
Off the bike
Stay at Malealea Lodge and at Trading Post Lodge. The latter was voted the best accommodation during Lesotho Sky Run (2011), so definitely worth a stay! Camping facilities are available, if you prefer to do things for yourself.
