OVERVIEW

Montagu, the Gateway to the Karoo, is a village with soul, boasting gorgeous views, beautiful architecture and excellent Hot Springs

On your bike

Ouberg Route:  Link up to the R62 just outside of town and head in the direction of Barrydale, then take a left onto Talana Road. 1km later, turn left onto a dirt road to Ouberg. This road continues with an easy gradient through farm land and then on to more mountainous areas. After about 19km turn left onto a tougher section along a dirt track. Once over the top, it’s a crank back along farm roads onto the R318 back to Montagu to the left.

Baden Route: Leave town via the Ri318 past the golf course, taking the right hand fork and continue a dirt road until you can turn left through farmland. At the next turn go left again and link up to the R318 back to town. This can also be done clockwise.

Talana Route: Go through town and link up to the R62 towards Barrydale, then turn left onto Talana Road. Follow this road to the T-junction and turn right to the R62. Except for the section before the R62 there are no big hills. Once on the R62 turn right for a fast tar ride back on the wide shoulder. This is an easy ride with great views of the farmland and mountains.

Talana Long Route: The same as the Talana Route, but turn left at the R61 and right again for an extra 10km loop.

Talana Short Route: The same as the Talana Route, but turn right and right when you reach the dirt road, or left at the T junction. Turn back to town on the R62.

Tracks: From Church steet head south past the hospital and onto some dirt. Crank up to the top and keep left where there is a track going off to the left. Once on this track there is scope for exploring the area. this is ideal for technical riders.
