FURTHER INFORMATION

European settlers in the 1800s mistook a grassy flood plain near Naboomspruit to be the source of the Nile and named the river flowing out of the “Nyl Rivier”. Part of the 1500-ha floodplain is now Nylsvley Nature Reserve: a birding paradise with around 400 species making their homes here. In the rainy season it becomes a wet wonderland when the perennial floodplain fills up and waterbirds flock here in their thousands.

On your bike

Various riding options in the serve. Terrain can be rather sandy in the western section, otherwise it is hard-pack through the bushveld. Puncture proof your tyres! Good terrain for families and beginners.

Off the bike

Pack your binoculars and your bird book. Game-viewing may also be done at the reserve.
