Explore an extensive network of dirt roads on the 650ha Segwati Game Farm, a mere 20km from Hartebeespoort Dam and only 45min from Pretoria or Johannesburg.
On your bike
Some of the roads are flat and therefore ideal for beginners, while the more adventurous cyclist can attempt mountain trails rising to 1,544 m above sea level or 4×4 tracks up and down the Witwatersrand range. The farm caters for both day visitors and overnight guests. At the time of writing, various market trails were being formally laid out, although the opportunity still exists to explore the entire ranch on any combination of the trails and tracks available.
Franklin Trail: This easy trail follows a flat road for less than 2km.
Reebuck Trail: This intermediate trail follows the ridges of the farm to the hillier areas and joins up with a 4×4 trail with some technical sections.
Hornbill Trail: This short trail covers 3 to 4km.
By Road: Don’t neglect your road bike. The Haartbeeshoek road is a wide and scenic tarred road, with a paucity of traffic that will bring tears of joy to any devout road cyclist. Distance is dependent on the route you choose – consult a road map. The Hartbeeshoek road is central to Hekpoort Pass and road routes out to Magaliesburg. All these other roads carry heavy, high-speed traffic, so plan your route carefully, using the AA travel services map of Magaliesburg and get going between 04h30 and 06h30 in the morning.
Off the bike
You’ll find superb day visitor and picnic facilities, swimming, hiking, game-viewing and a 4×4 track at Segwati Ranch.
