Be warned! Thaba Monaté Game Lodge is inside a mountain nature resort, so some fitness is required – otherwise you will be off your saddle more than you’re on it.
On your bike
Ride up to the mountain cliff lookout above a dam, and then ride down the hill and over the dam wall. Prepare for a steep climb up onto a plateau where you can recover a bit while taking in the views of the surrounding bushveld. This ride is only 10 km, but allow two hours to ride it if moderately fit. For longer rides, explore the lengths of dirt roads leading to surrounding centres and attractions. Just make sure to please discuss with staff on duty at reception beforehand.
Off the bike
In addition to the mountain bike trail, there’s a hiking trail and 4×4 track. Game-viewing, birdwatching and fishing and canoeing on the dam are also options. For the energetically inclined, there’s a floodlit tennis court, squash court and volleyball court.
